About Our Organization
Family Service Society, Inc. (FSSI) has been an integral part of Grant County for more than 100 years. Established in 1919, this community-based organization incorporated in 1954 as a 501(c) 3. Through the first 25-30 years FSSI provided basic and welfare services in Grant County for individuals from cradle to the grave. Services included child protection, adoption services, admission assessment for poor and elderly individuals going to the county home, utilities, food, clothing needs, and referral for community services. More recently, Family Service Society assists 13,000 children and families annually in 14 counties in northern Indiana make changes for good in their lives through:

  • Education that makes them healthier
  • Encouragement through evidence-based counseling
  • Empowerment through shelter, advocacy and new-found hope in domestic violence prevention programs

Referrals and requests for services come from within the North and Central geographical area of Indiana; referrals generally come from courts, law enforcement, local DCS offices, schools, medical providers, and faith-based communities as well as other service providers. Many of the agency’s clients are self-referred and have learned of services through internet searches and/or by word of mouth, including former clients or co-workers.

Family Service Society, Inc. exists to encourage, empower and educate children, adults and families to change their lives for good.


Family Service Society, Inc. is the regional leader in offering innovative therapeutic services, delivered with integrity, to positively impact the emotional well-being of children and families to create generational change.


Direct services address a wide variety of individual and family/support system needs which can include individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy through our General Clinical Programs, Sex Offender Programs, Sexually Abusive Youth Programs, and/or Substance Abuse Treatment Programs.

Those family members/support system included on referrals and requested by the client/client guardian are included in services to promote overall wellness and independence through healthier utilization of these support systems. Programs and services are reviewed and updated on an annual basis.
